Clinical Case Observation: Degenerative Knee Arthritis and Fibromyalgia

Patient: Daniela | Italy

Patient Background

Daniela, a patient from Italy, presented with chronic knee arthritis that persisted even after a prior surgical intervention. Despite undergoing surgery, she continued to experience joint pain, reduced mobility, and functional discomfort affecting daily activities.

In addition to the knee condition, she reported symptoms consistent with fibromyalgia, including widespread musculoskeletal pain that had been present for an extended period. These symptoms impacted her overall physical wellbeing and quality of life.

At the time of evaluation at BioCells Medical, her primary concerns were persistent knee dysfunction and chronic systemic pain.

Clinical Approach at BioCells Medical

In July 2023, following a comprehensive medical assessment, Daniela began an individualised regenerative medicine protocol.

The treatment strategy was developed based on:

  • Clinical evaluation of the knee joint

  • Review of surgical history

  • Assessment of systemic inflammatory symptoms

  • Overall health and functional status

The protocol included:

  • Autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)

  • Concentrated purified exosomes

  • Combined systemic (intravenous) and local intra-articular administration

  • Continuous medical supervision during the treatment process

All procedures were performed in accordance with established clinical and safety standards within a controlled medical environment.

Post-Treatment Observations

Over the following four to four and a half months (July–October 2023), the patient reported progressive functional improvement.

Observed changes included:

  • Marked reduction in knee pain

  • Significant improvement in joint mobility

  • Near-complete functional recovery of the affected knee

  • Substantial decrease in fibromyalgia-related pain intensity

  • Improved overall physical wellbeing

While fibromyalgia-related discomfort did not completely disappear, the intensity of pain decreased considerably, positively influencing daily functioning and comfort.

By follow-up, the patient reported feeling well at a general level, with sustained improvement in mobility and quality of life.

Follow-Up and Ongoing Monitoring

Daniela remains under medical follow-up to monitor joint stability, functional capacity, and systemic symptom progression.

Future therapeutic decisions are considered based on clinical evolution, objective assessment, and patient-specific goals.

Clinical Context

This case illustrates potential functional improvements following a personalised regenerative medicine protocol in a patient with degenerative joint pathology and systemic pain syndrome.

At BioCells Medical, each protocol is individually designed according to the patient’s diagnosis, previous interventions, stage of condition, and overall medical profile. Continuous supervision and structured follow-up are integral components of the treatment process.

Because degenerative and inflammatory conditions present differently in each individual, all cases are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the most appropriate medical strategy.

Medical Consultation
