Clinical Case Observation: Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (SPMS)
Patient: Silvia Baistrocchi, 56 years | Italy
Patient Background
Silvia Baistrocchi, a 56-year-old woman from Italy, has been living with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS). Over time, the disease course led to advanced motor impairment, generalized muscle weakness, and increasing fatigue. As a result, she became wheelchair-dependent and experienced growing difficulty performing basic daily activities, with a notable reduction in physical endurance and autonomy.
Clinical Approach at BioCells Medical
In May 2024, Silvia began a fully personalised allogeneic regenerative medicine programme at BioCells Medical. The clinical strategy was designed to support neurological stability, improve motor capacity, and reinforce systemic resilience, taking into account the progressive stage of her condition.
The treatment programme included:
Intravenous infusion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
Intranasal administration of MSCs and purified exosomes
Nebulised inhalation therapy with regenerative biofactors
To consolidate and extend the clinical response, two additional MSC booster infusions were administered in the following months. These booster treatments were intentionally spaced to support cumulative biological effects and functional adaptation.
All interventions were performed under structured medical supervision and integrated with ongoing rehabilitation.
Post-Treatment Observations
According to both the patient’s family and her physiotherapy team, Silvia demonstrated progressive and clinically meaningful functional changes, including:
increased muscle strength, particularly in the lower limbs,
improved endurance and tolerance during physiotherapy sessions,
regained ability to stand up from the wheelchair and take several assisted steps,
maintenance of functional gains despite a prolonged intestinal infection in December 2024, followed by recovery that was faster than anticipated.
The preservation of functional capacity during and after the infectious episode was considered indicative of a more stable systemic and neurological baseline following the regenerative programme.
Follow-Up and Ongoing Monitoring
Silvia remains under ongoing medical observation and continues structured physical therapy. Since her most recent booster treatment, no further functional deterioration has been reported. Her family notes a sustained improvement in daily autonomy, physical confidence, and overall quality of life.
Clinical follow-up continues to focus on maintaining stability and supporting further functional adaptation.
Clinical Context
This case illustrates how a stage-adjusted, personalised regenerative medicine approach may support functional capacity and systemic resilience in patients with progressive multiple sclerosis. At BioCells Medical, treatment strategies are developed individually, with careful consideration of disease stage, neurological status, and rehabilitation goals, and are accompanied by continuous medical oversight.
Medical Consultation
Patients and families affected by multiple sclerosis, including progressive forms, who are seeking professional medical guidance may request a free medical consultation with the BioCells Medical team.
Each case is assessed individually to determine the most appropriate, personalised regenerative care strategy.
